Happy Weekend

We had such a fun, relaxing weekend to celebrate the holiday. My parents came out to visit us for the first time since we moved! We went to a Louisville Bats minor league game...

watched fireworks...

read books...took endless photos of the baby... drove around town...and ate out at every hot spot in louisville...

It was so refreshing to spend time with family and just relax and enjoy one another. The highlight of our trip was a visit to the Louisville Slugger Museum, as there is a fantastic story to tell. Stay tuned... those pictures deserve a post of their own. Thanks for everything, Mom and Dad! We loved having you here and were so blessed by the weekend together!!

11 Months!

Our precious baby is almost done with her infant days. Not sure whether to tear up or celebrate! What the heck... let's do both. Monday was Naomi's 11-month bday! She is the joy of our lives. She continues to be an extremely content baby, though she has certainly discovered how loud she can be! She will yell at the top of her lungs, just to hear herself, then look up at me with a huge smile on her face.

Naomi is an incredible self-entertainer, loving to explore the house and all it has to offer. The dog's water dish, the computer tower, and various toy baskets around the house are the current favorites.

In the last couple of weeks, she has shown a new interest/tolerance to sit and read a book. I'm looving it. She has been pretty impatient of them prior to now. Not only does she love her own, but apparently, she has figured if books are that great, she might as well attack my graduate-level medical texts.There's a mullet in the making, so we're praying those front hairs in quickly, everyone. But if anyone can pull it off, it's her. :) Can't believe our next age update will be her first birthday!

Big Boo-Boo Friday

She looks happy, no? Well, looking closer, you'll see evidence of a NOT happy morning. Naomi fell off the first stair she climbed a few hours ago and got her first big bump. All this exploring has a cost! The pic hardly does the incident justice, as her forehead swelled up quite quickly. Looking closely, you can see the little injury extends beneath her right eye. The boo boo definitely called for an introduction to Mr. Happy...This was a sweet gift we got from my mom, a cold pack to keep in the fridge/freezer for such times. I believe Naomi would rename this invention Mr. Let Me Make You Very Upset. She was NOT a fan! But the ice sure helped - I was so thankful she woke up from her nap and didn't have a black eye! On to more 10-month-old adventures..

Surprises in the Mail!!!

Naomi received an awesome piece of mail yesterday,which she got to open after her nap (hence, the bedhead in the video). Please excuse my ridiculously high, how-I-talk-to-my-daughter voice. Don't you just love grandmothers?! Thank you, Mimi! It's a good one!

I have had to babyproof the house to a whole new level now with this girl standing up and cruisin'. It's so fun to watch her explore. She's into everything! Or at least, she'd like to be...

Fun, Fun Weekend!!

Friday was our fourth anniversary. Sunday was Grant's first Father's Day. It felt like 72-hours of celebration and family time. We had so much fun. This first picture has nothing to do with either one of these holidays - it was just too cute not to post.Grant and I had a nice Friday evening at home after the baby went down to bed. My wonderful hubby gifted me a chunk of change to go on a mini shopping spree! Woohoo! Grant had to wait until Sunday for his big anniversary/Father's Day gift...We cooked ourselves a dinner of lobster ravioli, asparagus, and potato scallion bread. We drank Izzes out of our champagne toasting glasses (thanks Nana!) and reminisced about our wedding day. It was a sweet, relaxed evening.Then the Father's Day fun began! Part one of Grant's gift was a blown-up picture of Naomi to hang over the fireplace.Then we took off Saturday and drove to Elizabethtown, KY, for a 24-hr getaway. We ate dinner at a great rib joint we discovered and chilled at a hotel. The whole purpose of this day away was for the second part of Grant's gift - I woke him up in the morning and told him that he was going to go SKYDIVING!!!He was totally caught off guard. He is always talking about how he's this adventurous guy (which he is) and wishes that we'd do more adventurous things. But he sure seemed a little unsure when I told him the plans for the day... it made me nervous and I wondered if I shouldn't have sprung such a surprise on him. As the hours progressed though, the adrenaline started pumping and he got very excited. (He did admit that when I told him, he thought to himself, "Oh man. Grant, you gotta put your money where your mouth is now! Lol...)All three of us had to spend the day at the skydiving place, where we patiently waited for the clouds to behave. We almost called it quits a couple of times. I was so thankful that I thought to take the portable DVD player with an Elmo movie!Naomi had a good nap in her stroller while we sat outside, enjoying the breeze, eating a picnic lunch we packed, waiting for the sky to clear up.Finally, it was a go! Grant was instructed about the jump and got all suited up -A practice run through... (the instructor acted all serious and said, "At this point, you put one hand like this, the other like this, and you pray!")Heading out!These next pictures give a painful realization that we have a spot on our camera lens that we need to have cleaned. But look! There he is!Coming in for landing...Feet safely on the ground. :)My proud, daring, and adventurous husband. Some of his first words - "I would SO do that again! I mean, I could do that a LOT!" He had a handcam that videoed his HILARIOUS reaction while skydiving, so once it is edited and we receive it in the mail, we will post it. It's so funny! We had a great weekend, celebrating our marriage and parenthood. Even when life can sometimes feel challenging, we know we are truly blessed!

Look Who's Standing UP!!!

A few posts ago, I shared how Naomi has discovered the "oooh" sound. Shortly after, she stopped making a sound and realized she could just softly blow air with her lips pursed like that. A few days later? No sound. No air. She just makes this sweet little face ALL the time. I love it! It's like she's just constantly surprised and impressed by things around her - here?
